Bubiknits Spring Summer 2013 fabric collection

Haw! I am happy to announce that I have designed some fabric at Spoonflower and there is my new collection. I’ve got the inspiration from my origin country and my childhood in Sicily, I recreate some flowers and colors that meant to me a lot, I can still remember the smell of Zagara flowers on my Grandmother’s balcony and I can see in my mind the clothes hanged out in the sun. That collection is a Tribute to all those things that make the woman that I am today, and hope you can appreciate a little bite of it.

Veni, Vidi, Vici

Veni, Vidi, Vici* said Julius Caesar, or I better say Veni, Vidi, Feci**.
Oh yes, it was a productive week, thanks to friends who shake me and helped me to not feeling sorry for myself, and an antibiotics cure for my never ending cold, I give up the dark-think and put a smile on my face again. I ended up with the decision to leave Marco to the school till 4.00 pm and after the work to treat me with a moment for myself only. Yes, there are also a bit of house works and house cleaning in the time I am home all alone, but this is ok, I haven’t to rush and I haven’t to stop doing things every 10 minutes as is normal when you have a child around. In this manner I feel more relaxed and my little one have much more time to play with other kids in the school’s garden now that is spring.
So, this week I finished my Birdie Sling Bag, Oh I’m so in love with it! I wear it today for the first time, I finished it yesterday at midnight :)

The text fabric is from the collection Architextures by Robert Kaufman and I love it!! I hope to find another yard of it at my LFS.

I finally get some photos of this cabinet, I purchased it from a collegue that restores old furniture, I decided the color and he made the rest. It is for my yarn stash and I hope to reset my mess very soon, but as you can see there are still boxes full of yarn near the cabinet. Damn’ compulsive buying disease! I will give up, soon or later, yes I will, really…. my bank hole is nearly enormous.

That is all folks!! (so, being a cartoon lover, it’s always good ah= ^_^?)
Talk to you soon and thank you thank you for all your lovely comments, I really appreciate them!!

Inspirations

I can’t stop to say how much SquamItalia was one of the most important and precious experience into my life. It represent a break from 3 years in a row of my working mom -never resting days. 6 month passing by and I feel I need another break, I am feeling  frustrated and sick lately. My son is the most important person to me, but really fighting with a 3-1/2 yo. kid every single day is drives me crazy. The worst part is that I don’t know if I’m doing well, wrong, good, bad… and having a partner that always neglecting on you, and say that you are doing wrong doesn’t help either. The only thing that seems helping me to feel less frustrated is sewing and knitting. I’m an introvert disguised of an extrovert, from adolescence to nowadays I haven’t never followed the mass, people look at me strange, the collegues times to time joke of me I think because I’m not the girly girl that most of the other female collegues are, it is rare you can find me talking of glamour, fashion, lipstick etc. all the time, I like reading of politics, wearing handmade clothes, make and search for news all around the world in the meaning time this is happen, and feeling bad seeing people being sheep when something that is getting old in the other part of the world (read USA – UK – France) get into my poor-minded citizen. That’s why I write my blog in (-my-bad-I-know) English, I do not need follower here in Italy, where on the next five year they will be talking and writing about what We Are talking and making and writing right now.

Anyway, keeping the speak on the subject of this endless and therapeutic post (I’m feeling like I am at the psychologist) , I mentioned SquamItalia because when I’ve got home I discovered that one of the participant was Karyn from Makesomething the owner of a quilt shop in Canada, and also she is one of my favorite and talented sewers and quilters. I love her blog, I really really love those two pieces she made, and I remember I’ve got more than one sight at her bag and skirt at SquamItalia.

Unfortunately we took different classes at Squam so I I have not had a chance to chat with her. I hope in another Squam before or later here in Europe.
Talking about the skirt and the bag, I purchased the patterns time ago, so I need that fabric! I felt in love with the Nani Iro fabric and I would love to find this specific indigo color, but the main site listed it as sold out. So, if you hear someone that would sell about 2 yd of it, drop me a line.

Have a lovely night! Is about 23:57 here and tomorrow I have to get up early as every day to go to work.

Xo, Giusy.

Me Made May ’13 and my new skirt

Uhm yep, I didn’t sign up for the fabulous Me Made May ’13  ’cause I haven’t so many handmade pieces into my wardrobe even if I would love to make more in the next future, but I think I’m going to wear at least two handmade pieces a week this month :) and to begin this is my 1st of May outfit. I’m really excited about this skirt, first of all because I draft and sewn it all alone and second because I used all the materials for it from my stash.
So what did you think about my Acid Lime-green skirt?! And are you ready for MMMay13?

Oh-La-là c’est Mon Laurel

I wrote about it last week and now here it is. This is my entry to the Laurel Sewing Contest.I’m in love with the dress, with Colette Patterns and with all the swing that those Indie patterns give to we makers.
I needed someone else who helps taken the photo shoot this time, so I asked Claudia to play around me with her Camera, and here is the result of an hour of work. I’m really pleased with the photos and we’ve got so much fun, Marco played with his enormous soft ball and Claudia captured a lovely picture of we while standing on the sun and watching at a lovely white Dove.

Great British Sewing Bee

Is there any sewers in the Universe that hasn’t yet heard about the “Great British Sewing Bee” TV series/show on BBC2? I  knew about the program reading Tilly’s blog. Tilly is one of the most lovely sewers blogger, that also was a participant of the program. So I am watching the series, that is very well constructed, I love the judges, the presenter, the songs, and of course I am in love with all the participant and their sewing challenge, they are so talented! This morning since I’m again at home coughing for the umpteenth time, I watched the second episode I’ve recorded yesterday night, and I’m so sad that Tilly was the third participant that left the sewing bee. I really liked her blouse.

A similar pattern version of the blouse can be purchased here.

Then, would we talk about the fabrics in the program??!! I love the Haberdashery and all the bold and bold of beautiful fabric they could choose from. Lauren   used a beautiful silk fabric on the last episode, and I’m pretty sure that it is from Liberty fabrics, It seems to me to have seen this on the web before while browsing for Liberty fabrics myself.

And I said: “I have it!” when Mark chose this skulls fabric for patches pockets.

This series helps me to take the courage of drafting my own skirt pattern, just a simply one, but I did it! I drafted an A line skirt with my measures and I’ve already made the muslin. Oh I’m so proud! I can’t wait to finish it, hope to feel better soon to get back my sewing machine. Here is a photo I took to imprint this event, before starting the fabric cutting and sewing.

And just that we are in argument, here is the Marie skirt I sew last year and never took a photo of it.

and would we talk about this beautiful sweater? I bet and won the California Vine Sweater on Ebay from Lornalace’s that organized a charity bidding selling out some of the samples made to promoting their yarn.

I’ve also finished my dress for the Laurel sewing contest but I need some helps for the photo boot, I ask to a friend to set a photo shoot and we will meet the next week, since then here is a sneak pic!

Sorry for the bluried photos in this post, I took them with my Iphone, no chance to use my Nikon lately.

Tea time anyone?

Image

Image

I designed this little stitch and quilt wall hanging a while ago. Never published so far. But now all is ready to go live! I love sipping my tea in every season, hot tea in Autumn-Winter-Spring and cooled tea in the  Summer.
The original project is hang on my kitchen wall, but the pattern is already available at my Etsy.
